Services offered through HealthyWays’ Sports and Occupational Medicine Division include:
Durable Medical Equipment (DME) is medical equipment used in the home to aid in a better quality of living. We sometimes prescribe a TENS unit, which is a pocket size, portable, battery-operated device that sends electrical impulses to certain parts of the body to block pain signals. Also, bracing is often used to provide the patient pain relief, improved function, and prevention of further injury. Ask our doctors if a DME is right for you.
With certain injuries and conditions, it may be necessary to implement the use of supportive bracing or devices. Patients with knee pain — whether from injuries such as sprain/strains, tears or degenerative osteoarthritis — may benefit from one of our prescribed, custom fit knee braces. Patients suffering from neck pain, especially when this pain radiates into the shoulders and arms, may benefit from cervical traction devices that assist in relieving pressure on the discs and nerves. Such conditions can result from undetected injuries and disc degeneration. These are only a few of the different supports and devices that our medical team may prescribe through proper evaluation and diagnosis.
Trigger point injections are a part of the relief stage of care and are a quick and effective way to treat localized pain. A physician administers trigger point injections by inserting a small needle containing a local anesthetic into a patient’s trigger point, which inactivates the trigger point and relieves pain in the affected area. Ask our doctors if trigger point injections are an option to control and manage your pain.
Did you know that after suffering a concussion, an athlete is 3-6 times more susceptible to suffer another concussion compared to an athlete who has not suffered a concussion?
Benefits of the Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Release (IASTR) is that it decreases overall time of treatment, fosters faster rehabilitation/recovery, reduces need for anti-inflammatory medication, and resolves chronic conditions thought to be permanent.
Did you know that IASTR instruments, much like a tuning fork, resonate in the clinician’s hands allowing the clinician to isolate adhesions and restrictions, and treat them very precisely?
Trigger point injections can be very useful for long term pain relief and deactivating deep and entrenched trigger points.
Helping you get on the road to healing!
Following an auto accident, most victims are unaware of hidden injuries because the pain is masked by medications given to them immediately after the accident. Additionally, the effects of spinal misalignments can take weeks, months, or even years to surface. By then, the patient is unaware that their pain, suffering, discomfort, or fatigue is at all related to the accident.
Many physicians do not have the training necessary to detect injuries in the soft tissue, so they prescribe muscle relaxers and pain medications to mask post-accident symptoms. Insurance companies benefit because they are often released from liability by requesting that victims settle their cases before being checked for hidden injuries.
Could You Be Suffering From Hidden Injury?
If you have experienced any of the following symptoms since your auto accident, you may have a soft tissue injury:
